Producer Sandra Thomas, known for her unwavering fight against the Kerala Film Producers' Association (KFPA), has approached the Ernakulam sub-court after she was disqualified from contesting to the positions of president and treasurer in the upcoming KFPA elections. Sandra Thomas told Onmanorama that the producers' body rejected her nominations to the post since they were afraid she would expose some of the 'dirty secrets of the association' if she takes over as president of the KPFA.

Sandra Thomas had submitted her nominations to the post of president and treasurer, but the KFPA disqualified her citing that she has only two names to her credit.  According to B Rakesh, the secretary of the KFPA, Sandra has only submitted two certificates for films produced under her current banner, Sandra Thomas Productions. The third film was produced under Friday Film House, a company where she was previously a partner.

'Sandra does not have the right to contest for the positions of president or treasurer because she has only submitted certificates for two films under her current banner. Her claim that she has produced more than three films does not hold up, as she is currently registered with Sandra Thomas Productions and not with Friday Film House. While some films from Friday Film House may bear her name as a producer, this argument is weak since Vijay Babu is currently the only registered owner of Friday Film House.'"

Rakesh also dismissed the allegations levelled against him for appointing an election officer for the scrutiny of nomination papers. "As per the bylaw, the president and secretary are eligible to scrutiny the nomination papers. However, we felt it is important to appoint someone senior as the returning officer to maintain an unbiased stand. We would not do that, if we had anything to hide." he said.

Sandra Thomas is determined to fight 'tooth and nail' against the KFPA leadership's stance. She argues that there are other producers, such as Vysakh Subramaniam, who have produced films under two different banners and have faced no issues qualifying for elections.

She questions whether this discrepancy is due to gender bias, stating, "This only further establishes my point that the KFPA is gender-biased." Additionally, she addressed Rakesh's comment about her not having made a hit film, clarifying, "I have produced over three films, all of which are superhits." Notably, Sandra Thomas is the producer of successful films including "Zachariayude Garbhinikal," "Philips and the Monkey Pen," and "Aadu."
