Ernakulam Sub-Court dismisses Sandra Thomas’ plea against Kerala Producers’ Association

The Ernakulam Sub-Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition filed by producer Sandra Thomas challenging the Kerala Film Producers’ Association’s decision to reject her nomination for the post of president in the upcoming elections. While the court's reasoning has not yet been made public, Sandra stated via Facebook that she intends to pursue further legal action after consulting with her lawyers.

Sandra had filed her nomination for the presidential post in the association's forthcoming elections. However, her application was rejected on the grounds that she had produced only two films under her own banner, Sandra Thomas Productions. The association cited its bylaws, which require candidates for key posts to have produced at least three films.

Although Sandra was previously a partner at Friday Film House alongside Vijay Babu, the association ruled that her past involvement with the firm could not be considered since she had exited the partnership after receiving her share. Sandra, however, contended that the films produced during her tenure — all of which became major hits — were officially censored in her name.

The elections for key posts in the Kerala Film Producers’ Association are scheduled to take place on August 14. Prominent producers including B. Rakesh, Listin Stephen, and Sophia Paul are among the candidates in the fray.
