Writer V K Sreeraman who is one of Mammootty’s closest friends revealed that the megastar had called him to give him an important update about his health but he was unavailable when the call arrived. “I was in the autorickshaw at that time and I didn’t hear the bell ring. When I noticed that he had tried to reach me, I called him back. He chided me asking if I was too busy to pick his call. When I told him I was travelling in an autorickshaw, he asked me why I didn't opt travelling by car. He then told me about his health. He said he passed the last and crucial test. There was no excitement in his voice, but I know he was relieved,” he told Manorama News.
He added that though Mammootty had told him about the test, Sreeraman said he had forgotten about it since he had just mentioned it in passing in the past. “Apart from him sharing details about how he had lost appetite for food and had some taste issues, his ill health did not bother him much. He would call me and we would discuss several things. The last time we spoke, he spoke in length about the latest camera brands and features. He always discussed theatre, novels and politics. I would often not have an idea about the subjects he chose to discuss about and he would make fun of me, saying in jest that I was just acting like an intellectual. I am glad things are getting better,” he said.
He added that the actor will definitely be involved with cinema soon, but the pace at which he can return to work would depend on the doctors’ advice. Mammootty plays a prominent role in the upcoming Mahesh Narayanan’s film, tentatively titled ‘MMMN’. Though he had begun shoot for the film, he had to take a break due to health concerns.
