Actor Niyas Backer, brother of late actor Kalabhavan Navas, dismissed claims that the latter’s family received Rs 26 lakh from the Life Insurance Corporation of India as term insurance. A supposedly fabricated poster using the LIC name has been doing the rounds on social media claiming that it has paid the term insurance to the family after Kalabhavan Navas’ death.
The poster also has the LIC tagline ‘With you, every moment of life’ along with Navas’ photo, claiming that they have paid Rs 26 lakh against a premium of Rs 7 lakh. Meanwhile, Niyas told Manorama Online that some of his friends had sent him the poster that is being circulated on WhatsApp.
“We are still mourning Navas’ loss. We learnt that a fake claim is being circulated on Whatsapp. I have no idea who is behind such claims nor do we think this is being circulated with the knowledge of the LIC officials. The poster doesn’t have the LIC’s official seal or emblem. We haven’t received any amount yet. Such false claims will ruin our chances of getting our due. Navas is still supposed to get his due from several places. Those people may be hesitant to make those payments, if they think we have already received an hefty sum,” he said.
Niyas, who is also Navas’ brother, condemned the fake poster, confirming that it is entirely fabricated. He stated that certain individuals are attempting to mislead the public by falsely claiming that Navas’ family received ₹26 lakh as a death claim. Niyas added that the family is deeply upset by the spread of this misinformation. Nizam also appealed to the public not to fall for such false news.
