Actor Unni Mukundan is set to portray Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a new biopic titled ‘Maa Vande’. The film is being produced by Veer Reddy M under the banner of Silver Cast Creations. The announcement was made on Monday, coinciding with Modi’s birthday.
Written and directed by Kranthi Kumar C.H., ‘Maa Vande’ will trace the life of Modi from his early years to his rise as the country’s leader. The narrative also aims to explore his relationship with his mother, Heeraben Modi, who passed away in 2022 and is often described as a key influence in his journey.
The makers have described the film as a large-scale pan-Indian project, promising high-end visual effects and a release in multiple languages, including English. Alongside Unni Mukundan, the cast and technical crew are yet to be announced.
Biopics on political leaders have often stirred debate in Indian cinema, and ‘Maa Vande’ is likely to draw attention for its timing and portrayal of a sitting Prime Minister. Whether the film will lean towards hagiography or attempt a nuanced retelling of Modi’s life remains to be seen.
