Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has revealed that Basil Joseph spent two years in Bollywood waiting for the superhero film ‘Shaktimaan’ to materialise. Kashyap said it was Basil himself who shared this experience with him during a candid chat. “Basil told me he had dedicated two years of his life to ‘Shaktimaan’ and even asked me how I managed to survive in this industry,” Kashyap recalled in an interview with the YouTube channel Chalachitra Talks.
Kashyap recounted how he first met Basil at Mazhavil Manorama’s award function. “Basil is a fine actor. In just two or three years, I haven’t seen another actor explore such variety. I even asked him how he managed to pull it off,” Kashyap said.
“But then Basil explained how he had invested two of the most valuable years of his career waiting for ‘Shaktimaan’. He asked me, ‘How do you manage to hold on in this industry?’ And I told him honestly, ‘I couldn’t hold on, that’s why I stepped aside.’ Basil said it with a smile, but it was clear those years were a significant setback,” Kashyap added.
There had been widespread reports that Basil Joseph was set to direct ‘Shaktimaan’, a Sony Pictures production starring Ranveer Singh. However, there have been no updates on the project for quite some time.
