Actor-director Rishab Shetty has strongly condemned a viral fake poster urging viewers to abstain from alcohol, tobacco, and non-vegetarian food until the release of the highly anticipated film Kantara: Chapter 1. The misleading poster, which surfaced on a major social media platform, quickly gained traction and caused widespread confusion among fans.
Speaking at a recent press conference related to the film’s release, Rishab Shetty distanced himself and the production team from the poster, clarifying that neither he nor his team had any involvement with its creation. “The poster is fake and has nothing to do with us,” he said. “It appears to be the work of someone trying to go viral. Everyone has the right to make personal lifestyle and dietary choices. No one should impose their beliefs on others.”
The controversial poster claimed that viewers must follow 'three divine steps'—avoiding alcohol, smoking, and non-vegetarian food—until they watch the film in theatres on October 2. It even directed users to fill out a Google form to receive a 'certificate of participation.'
A section of social media users enthusiastically shared the poster, using hashtags and commentary that further fueled its reach. The buzz forced Rishab and the film’s team to respond publicly. “I was shocked when I first saw it. I even cross-checked with my production team to confirm it wasn't something we had done,” Rishab added, reiterating that the film does not promote or endorse such messages.
'Kantara,' originally released in Kannada, became a pan-India blockbuster, catapulting Rishab Shetty to national fame. Since the announcement of 'Kantara: Chapter 1,' several rumors have swirled around the production. These have included exaggerated reports of mishaps and even deaths on set.
In one instance, media reports claimed a major accident involving the crew. However, the production team clarified that a bus had met with a minor accident about 20 kilometers away from the set, and none of the cast or crew were involved or injured. Filming, they confirmed, has been progressing smoothly and on schedule.
The makers have cautioned fans to be wary of misinformation and fake news circulating online, especially as anticipation builds for the sequel to one of India's most talked-about films.
