Diya Suriya, the daughter of well-known actors Suriya and Jyothika, has made her directorial debut with a docu-drama titled 'Leading Light'. The 17-year-old’s film has been produced by her parents under their home banner, 2D Entertainment.
'Leading Light' focuses on the lives of women gaffers in Bollywood. The film sheds light on the untold stories of light-women working behind the scenes in the industry, blending documentary and drama to portray their experiences.
The 13-minute docu-drama is currently being screened at the Oscar Qualifying Run at Regency Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The screening runs from September 26 to October 2, with daily shows at 12:00 PM. It features intimate interviews with three women considered pioneers in the field.
As per the description on the Regency Theatre website, 'Leading Light' captures the journey of women working behind the camera. Along with Diya Suriya, the film features Hetall Deddhia, Priyanka Singh and Leena Gangurde.
Meanwhile, Diya’s father, actor Suriya, has an exciting lineup of films, the first of which is expected to be RJ Balaji’s 'Karuppu'. The teaser of the film, released recently, opens with the deity Karuppu being worshipped with chilli powder, accompanied by a voiceover that says, “It’s not a calm deity that you worship with grace. If you pray with sincerity and offer chillies, it’s a fierce deity that will deliver instant justice.”
The teaser introduces Suriya’s character, Saravanan, a lawyer who is also known by another name — Karuppu. The rest of the teaser suggests a commercial entertainer packed with action sequences and powerful dialogues. At one point, Suriya is heard saying, “Blast! My brother, this is our time, I’m gonna give you all a whacking.”
Actress Trisha plays the female lead in 'Karuppu', while Malayalam actors Indrans, Sshivada and Swasika, along with Tamil actors Yogi Babu and Natty, appear in key roles.
