The trailer of ‘Theatre: The Myth of Reality’ was unveiled at a unique campaign titled #UnwrittenByHer in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. The film directed by ‘Biriyaani’ filmmaker Sajin Baabu features Rima Kallingal in the lead role and is backed by Anjana Philip and Philip Zackaria under the banner Anjana Talkies.
Minister for Fisheries, Culture and Youth Affairs, Saji Cherian, was the chief guest at the event, which was attended by the cast and crew of the film. The campaign also celebrated the achievements of women trailblazers from various fields. Among those honoured were Radhamani Amma, a 73-year-old license holder for 11 different types of vehicles, including heavy machinery; Arya Rajendran, India’s youngest Mayor; G. S. Roshni, a Beat Forest Officer and Kerala’s only female snake rescuer, who has saved over 800 snakes — including an 18-foot king cobra; Sruthy Sithara, Miss Trans Global 2021; and members of the Haritha Karma Sena, a dedicated team of women who collect and manage household plastic waste across Kerala.
Actor Rima Kallingal was present along with other members of the cast and crew. The film will premiere at the Eurasian Bridge – International Competition Section in the IX Yalta International Film Festival on October 7. The film, which also earned selections at TIME International Film Festival and CinéV-CHD International Film Festival, will also be screened at the Kazan Film Festival, Russia. Earlier, the film won the Best Actress Award and the Special Jury Award at the 48th Kerala Film Critics Awards.
The campaign and event not only celebrated the spirit of women who chose unconventional journeys but also captured the essence of ‘Theatre: The Myth of Reality,’ a film that explores societal and cultural constraints on women, their resilience, and the questioning of long-held traditions. The film is set to release in theatres across India on October 16.
