The Delhi High Court has issued summons to Red Chillies Entertainment--owned by Shah Rukh Khan-- and Netflix in connection with the civil defamation suit filed by IRS officer Sameer Wankhede. The suit was filed on October 8, 2025.
Wankhede has alleged that the web series ‘The Ba**ds of Bollywood’, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, contains malicious content that has seriously damaged his reputation, dignity, and public image, as well as that of his family.
The court’s issuance of a summons indicates that it found the allegations serious enough to require judicial scrutiny. A hearing date has been set, and proceedings will continue as per the law. In an earlier hearing, the court had asked Wankhede to explain why the suit was maintainable in Delhi and requested amendments in the plaint to clarify the reasons.
The lawsuit lists Red Chillies Entertainment Private Limited, Netflix, X Corp (formerly Twitter), Google LLC, Meta Platforms, RPG Lifestyle Media Private Limited, and John Doe as defendants.
Wankhede claimed that the series portrays biased and defamatory content against him. He also noted that his case, along with Aryan Khan, is still pending before the Bombay High Court and a special NDPS court in Mumbai.
He highlighted a scene in which a character says, “Satyamev Jayate” and immediately makes an obscene gesture, which he alleges insults the national slogan—a violation under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.
Wankhede has sought ₹2 crore in damages, stating the amount will be donated to Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital for cancer treatment. The suit also requests a permanent injunction against the production house and other parties, to prevent the airing of the allegedly “false, malicious, and defamatory video.”
Furthermore, he claimed the series violates multiple provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code by using obscene and offensive content intended to hurt national sentiments.
