Producer Supriya Menon recently shared a satirical Instagram reel titled ‘An interview given by a kulasthree celebrity.’ The video, originally posted by influencer Afreena Ashraf, mocks regressive patriarchal attitudes—particularly the belief that men should dictate how women dress. Through sharp irony, the reel critiques the outdated views still held by some public figures.
Since its release, viewers have been speculating whether the video is targeting certain celebrities, as it references ideas commonly expressed by some well-known names. Regardless, the reel has sparked conversation across social media for its bold take on gender dynamics. In the video, Afreena Ashraf adopts the persona of a traditionalist woman endorsing deeply patriarchal ideas—but in a clearly satirical tone. Her exaggerated statements underline the absurdity of such views:
“If someone makes an obscene comment about our dressing, the fault lies with us. A woman’s freedom is also a man’s freedom. After all, man cannot exist without woman—he is born of her. In my home, my grandmother wears a curtain instead of a saree because sarees are too revealing. Even at her age, she must be careful. If we receive vulgar comments, it’s not others’ fault—it’s our behavior that must have provoked them.
Women say wearing a bikini is about freedom, but that’s not their decision to make. What women wear should be decided by men, since they are the ones who have to see it. Everything would be fine if we simply wore clothes approved by the men in our lives. My family and I cannot find peace unless we interfere in others’ choices. You should always consult your father, brother, or husband before picking an outfit. Only men truly understand men. Things would be better if women dressed according to men’s preferences.”
