Jonathan Bailey, best known for his roles in 'Bridgerton' and 'Wicked', has been named as People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2025. The announcement, marking the 40th anniversary of the iconic title, was made on Monday night during The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Bailey, who rose to fame as Lord Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest Bridgerton sibling in Netflix’s Regency-era romantic drama Bridgerton, appeared on the show to celebrate the news. “It’s an honour of a lifetime, and I want to say, Jimmy, thank you so much for turning it down so I could be here,” Bailey joked.
Host Jimmy Fallon revealed two special covers of the magazine featuring Bailey — one showing him on a beach and another where he’s shirtless, holding a dog. Speaking to People magazine about his reaction, the 37-year-old actor said he was deeply touched by the recognition. “It’s a huge honour. Obviously, I’m incredibly flattered. And it’s completely absurd. It’s been a secret, so I’m quite excited for some friends and family to find out,” Bailey said with a laugh.
He added that his friends would likely be shocked that he managed to keep the news under wraps. “I think a lot of my friends will. They’ll be furious that I haven’t told them. And then they’ll just squeal with delight. They’ve seen me grow up. Behind the mask of being identified as a sexy man are other truths that they know and they’ve witnessed. They know the secrets,” he shared.
Apart from his celebrated portrayal in Bridgerton, Bailey is also recognised for his performances as Prince Fiyero in Wicked and Dr Henry Loomis in Jurassic World: Rebirth. His upcoming project, Wicked: For Good, is slated for release on November 21.
Since its inception in 1985, People’s Sexiest Man Alive title has become a pop-culture staple. The first recipient was Mel Gibson, with past honourees including George Clooney, Patrick Dempsey, Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, Michael B Jordan, John Legend, and last year’s winner, John Krasinski.
