Amaran to open Indian Panorama at IFFI; Kamal Haasan shares pride

Kamal Haasan has expressed his joy and pride over Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, being chosen as the opening film in the Indian Panorama section at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
The film has also been nominated for the prestigious Golden Peacock Award. Sharing a poster of Rajkumar Periasamy’s directorial on social media, Kamal wrote, "Proud to share the immortal Major Mukund Varadarajan’s story that stirred India’s soul will now echo across the world."
He further added, "Extremely delighted to share that #Amaran has been nominated for the Golden Peacock Award under the International Competition and will be the opening feature film in the Indian Panorama section at the 56th International Film Festival of India, Goa. Amaran is based on India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh, which includes a chapter on Major Mukund Varadarajan. The biographical drama narrates the story of Indhu, who sets out to receive the Ashoka Chakra award on behalf of her late husband Mukund, while recalling his life and valour.
Sivakarthikeyan portrays Major Mukund Varadarajan, and Sai Pallavi plays his wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese. The film also features Rahul Bose, Bhuvan Arora, Haethakshi V, Lallu, Anbu Thasan, Shreekumar, Shyamaprasad, Shyam Mohan, Paul T Baby, Raju Rajappan, Shyla Das, and Geetha Kailasam, among others.
Produced by Kamal Haasan, R. Mahendran, and Vivek Krishnani under Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures Films India, Amaran became the second-highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024 and ranked ninth among the year’s top Indian releases.
