Priyadarshan set social media buzzing after he posted a photo with Mohanlal and Saif Ali Khan from the sets of his new film ‘Haiwan’. His caption added a touch of nostalgia and gratitude: “Look at life and the way it turns… Here I am on the sets of ‘Haiwan’, standing with the son of one of my biggest cricket heroes and one of my favourite actors. Truly, God is kind.”
‘Haiwan’ is loosely inspired by Priyadarshan’s Malayalam film ‘Oppam’, though the director has reworked the screenplay and dialogues to match the tone of the new project. Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar lead the film, while Mohanlal appears in a guest role. Priyadarshan has hinted that Mohanlal’s character will be a small surprise for the audience.
The photo also revived an old discussion among fans: the watch Mohanlal is seen wearing. Back when ‘Oppam’ released, the same watch became a talking point, with some critics questioning whether a blind character would wear one. Priyadarshan later addressed the criticism through the film.
Along with Saif and Akshay, the cast includes Boman Irani, Sharib Hashmi, Asrani, Saiyami Kher and Shriya Pilgaonkar.
‘Haiwan’ is produced by Venkat K. Narayan and Shailaja Desai Fen under the banners of KVN Productions and Thespian Films. Cinematography is by Divakar Mani, with production design by Sabu Cyril. The film’s first schedule was completed in Kochi, and upcoming shoots are planned in Vagamon, Ooty and Mumbai.
