A new Malayalam project bringing together Mammootty and filmmaker Khalid Rahman has been announced, marking their first collaboration since ‘Unda’. The film will be produced by Shareef Muhammed under the Cubes Entertainments banner.

The announcement comes at a busy moment for the production house, which recently delivered the commercial success ‘Marco’ and is awaiting the release of ‘Kattalan’. The Mammootty project is expected to move into production soon, though details about the story and setting have not yet been revealed.

The screenplay has been jointly written by Niyog, Sharaf, and Suhas. The makers have also indicated that several artistes and technicians from across the Indian film industry are involved, with further casting and crew details to be announced later.

The banner’s next release, ‘Kattalan’, stars Antony Varghese Pepe and is directed by debutant Paul George. The recently unveiled first look suggested a film that is attempting to break away from familiar genre patterns.

While the upcoming Mammootty film is being mounted on a large scale, attention has largely centred on the creative collaboration at its core. Khalid Rahman’s contemporary approach to storytelling and Mammootty’s enduring screen presence make the project one of the more closely watched Malayalam films currently in development.
