Demand for higher wages, regulation in working hours in film industry: Crucial meeting in Kochi today

The Kerala Film Producers' Association is currently in talks with the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) in Kochi to address ongoing wage and remuneration concerns that are affecting the industry. Two rounds of discussions have already been held, and both organisations will meet in Kochi on Wednesday for further dialogues.
Wage issues have long been a point of contention between associations, with the Kerala Film Producers Association expressing caution, citing that rising wages contribute to increased production costs. Producers argue that while the remuneration of superstars remains significant, it continues to strain their finances, particularly when films fail to perform well at the box office.
The Employees’ Federation will also outline their demands during the meeting, which seeks to reach a mutually agreeable solution. Additionally, the federation has expressed concerns about regulating working hours.
Although the Producers' Association has raised the issue regarding high remuneration of actors with the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), the matter has been temporarily put on hold following AMMA's firm stance on the issue.
In a related development, film distributors are also in discussions concerning concerns over booking practices with major platforms, which have further fueled the industry's challenges, according to sources.
