There are enough trollers at my house: Samyukta Varma

Samyukta Varma has charmed the Malayali movie goers with her infectious smile and a handful of incredible roles. Though the former actress quit acting post her wedding to noted actor Biju Menon, she is quite active on the social media.

Samyukta has an impressive collection of statement jewelry that she proudly flaunts. Interestingly, most of these pieces have some spiritual significance as mantras or chants are written on them. She was often spotted with a rudraksha chain (prayer beads in Hinduism) around her wrist. However, it is no longer seen on her wrist. Samyukta gets candid about her love for jewelry and the positive energy that they exude in her life.

Where is the rudraksha chain that was always seen on your wrist?

That chain was actually my strength. It reminded me that there is a greater force that guides me always. But now, my mind doesn’t need that constant reminder. Mind itself is the greatest source of strength. I have realized the impeccable power of it.

Can you explain more about this unique strength?

It is inexplicable. But we would feel that we have everything in life; that God has given us everything and we feel incredible happiness. I would like to call that ecstasy as the strength. Haven’t you seen people feeling dejected and unhappy despite achieving everything. Earlier, I too was like that. My mind has become calmer since yoga became an important part of my life. Now, I am thankful about whatever I have in life.

You are one celebrity who doesn’t have any haters or trollers. How do you manage that?

I may not have online trollers but a few gossips have been going around about me. But, we don’t take them seriously. Besides, I don’t need anyone from outside to troll me as there are enough trollers in my house itself. It is Biju who comments first when I wear a new dress or wear a big statement earring. He would make funny comments even if I spot a new hairdo.

I had worn a chunky earring for Bhavana’s wedding. Those pics were the favorite of online trolls for some time. We laughed a lot reading some really funny memes. We really don’t have any haters as we don’t unnecessarily interfere in others’ affairs. Now, I don’t take anything negatively. Instead, I like to see the positive side of everything.

My son Dhaksh Dharmik is of the view that only one actor is in the house – his father. The other day, a song from our movie Mazha was played in TV. When my mother called him and asked to watch the movie, he said his father acted wonderfully. And again when my mother insisted to check who the heroine is, he replied by saying that the actress looked similar to me. That's the situation at home.

Who are your closest friends?

I have very few friends, but these friendships are really strong. I share a close bond with Geethu Mohandas since the time we acted together in Thenkasipattanam. Bhavana and my younger sister Sangamitra had studied together. I know her from childhood itself. We are like a family. Manju Warrier is a sister to me. We often communicate via video calls. Besides, our ‘girl gang’ loves occasional meet ups and we go for trips as well.

(Showing the neck piece that has a huge Budhdha face as the locket). This was gifted to me by Bhavana knowing my love for yoga. I feel a positive energy whenever I wear this.
