Actor Arjun Ashokan who was last seen in 'Anand Sreebala' and the Mammootty-starrer 'Bramayugam' says he wants to try out new roles and believes he has achieved that with his latest release 'Anpodu Kanmani'. The movie directed by Liju Thomaz, who previously helmed a couple of short films, follows a newlywed couple and how they try to adapt to new surroundings and circumstances.
The premise may have been explored in films like Anand Madhusoodanan's 'Vishesham', but Arjun Ashokan said he grabbed the opportunity to do 'Anpodu Kanmani' because he felt he could personally connect with the scenes in the movie. "I know a family friend who went through the same issue and this movie felt so relatable," he told Onmanorama.

The actor also spoke about his boy-next-door image, which is one of the reasons why the director Liju Thomas cast him in the movie. "I think I got this relatable boy-next-door image because I appeared in several films that depicted me in that way at the beginning of my career, including 'BTech', 'Parava' and 'June'. I did films like 'Varathan' and 'Ajagajantharam' to break that image. Recently, I have been part of a few darker films like 'Ozler' and 'Bramayugam'. Now, I want to try something lighter and different," he said.

Arjun believes it is important to stay grounded even when success comes calling. "It is easy to get carried away by your success. I don't blame the artist, but after a point, you realise the importance of staying grounded. I felt the same when all my movies did well. I thought I had achieved a lot, but my perspective changed. I realised that self-respect is the most important trait you need as an artist. It will take you a long way in your career," he said. Arjun has a string of movies lined up in Kollywood. He has completed shoots for two Tamil films and is in talks with a director for his next one.

'Anpodu Kanmani' starring Arjun Ashokan, Anagha Narayanan, Althaf Salim and Maala Parvathy, hit theatres on January 24.
