At a time when the #Metoo revelations and women’s safety have become the talk of the town, Baburaj-starrer 'Koodasha' offers a sneak peek into the musings and agonies of a father of a girl child. The movie which has the elements of a psycho thriller is directed by debutante Dinu Thomas and bankrolled by Omar and Riyas for the banner of OMR Group.
In Koodasha, actor Baburaj plays the lead role with streaks of villainy. This is the actor’s comeback into a serious role after a string of comic ones.
Plot with twists and turns
Baburaj has delivered a power-packed performance as Kallookkaran Joy, a goon, who lives for his only daughter. It would rather be appropriate to say that it was the circumstances which made Joy, a widower, turn into a dreaded goon. Joy decides to give up his old ways after committing one last ‘quotation’ and start a new life with his daughter. However, something unexpected takes place which forces Joy to pursue it. The climax is thrilling and is full of twists and surprising revelations for Joy and the audience alike.
Assaults on women and the consequences that it creates in families form the crux of the movie. Besides, 'Koodasha' also discusses mental conditions like paranoia and schizophrenia.
Stirring performances
Besides Baburaj, Aryan Krishna Menon, Krithika Pradeep, Sai Kumar, Joy Mathew and Devan play pivotal roles in 'Koodasha'. Baburaj has done an incredible job as Joy,
which undoubtedly is one of the most amazing characters in his acting career spanning 25 years. The actor has flawlessly portrayed the agonies of a father who is disturbed by his past as well. Baburaj recently revealed that he has acted in the movie without demanding any remuneration as he really liked the script.
Krithika Pradeep, who debuted through the superhit movie 'Mohanlal' essays the role of Baburaj’s daughter. Actor Aryan Krishna Menon too has performed his role with finesse.
Superb narration
Though his debut venture, director Dinu Thomas has adopted an excellent narrative style which has won over the audience and the critics alike. The narrative style owes a lot to the impeccable editing and cinematography as the scenes which switch between the past and the present simulate for the audience the mental state of the protagonist.
The camera is cranked by Faisal Khalid and editing is by Akash Joseph.
The scenes which depict crime have a unique charm that draws the attention of the audience. The music is composed by Vishnu Mohan and Harinarayanan has penned the lyrics. Singer Abhijith Vijayan, who gained fame for his mesmerising voice which sounds similar to that of veteran singer Yesudas, has sung a beautiful song in the movie.
Bright BO prospects
'Koodahsa' joins an impressive list of psycho thriller movies that have entertained the Malayali audience. Though the movie does not boast of high-profile star cast, it hopes to create ripples in the box office with its relevant plot and some amazing performances by the lead actors.
