It seemed to be a time of nostalgia for ace lyricist and director Sreekumaran Thampi at the audio launch of 'Oru Kuprasidha Payyan'. Talking at the launch, Thampi recalled why he chose to pen songs for this movie directed by Madhupal.
“When Madhupal approached me to write the lyrics for the songs of the movie, I hesitated and told him that it has been a while since I have written, and moreover, I was not sure if I would be able to match the needs of the new-gen. But then Madupal insisted and I gave in for two reasons,” the veteran lyricist revealed.
“One is that the film was shot at Vaikom and interestingly my wife is from this place (in Kottayam district). Vaikom Mani, the hero of 1950 Malayalam movie 'Nalla Thanka', is my father-in-law,” he added.
Talking about Tovino Thomas, the lead protagonist of the latest movie, Thampy said he is a fan of the actor.
“Secondly, the happiest reason for me was Tovino Thomas. I am an ardent fan of the actor. In the movie 'Aami', directed by Kamal, Tovino was seen playing the role of a 'Krishnan', not the image of Sri Krishnan but the attitude that Lord Krishna had. I think I am lucky to pen a song for a movie in which Tovino played the lead. This is my 52nd year being a lyricist in the industry. Probably, when I began writing songs, Tovino's mother was just 8 years old,” he said while referring to the amorous image of the lord.
Reminding the audience that he will never retire, he said, “It's true that I am writing songs after a while, but never will I let anyone say that Sreekumaran Thampy has retired. I will continue to do one or the other thing.”
“With this movie, it is for the second time that (music composer) Ouesepachan and I have come together. Earlier we joined hands for a Mammootty movie 'Mahayanam' (1989) directed by Joshiy. And with Joshiy as the chief guest for today's evening, it gives me immense pleasure,” he concluded.
While Ouseppachan has composed songs for the movie, the major singers in the film are Adarsh Abraham, Rajalakshmy, Sudeep, Prathap and Rimi Tomy.
