Bhuban invented the ‘Kacha Badam’ song as a way of attracting customers to peanuts.

The Bengali song ‘Kacha Badam’ has taken social media by storm after the video of a wayside seller singing it has gone viral. The catchy tune and the rural Bengali slang have earned the song millions of fans on multiple social media platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. Celebrities too have joined the ‘Kacha Badam’ trend and are busy grooving to the tunes of it. Interestingly, more than 3.5 lakh reels videos have been reportedly made on this song, so far. Many have been curious to know whether it is a film song or an old folk song. However, those who know the real story behind the song and the singer can’t help but shower praises and extend support to the man in the original video.

The 'badam’ man

Bhuban Badyakar, a resident of Kuraljuri village in West Bengal, is a peanut seller. He travels to nearby villages, on his old motorbike, to sell peanuts and almonds in exchange for old items or other valuables. He invented the ‘Kacha Badam’ song as a way of attracting customers and to announce to the village that he has arrived.

Someone shot the video of him singing the song and posted it on YouTube. The catchy tune and the eager rendition made this song an instant hit. Meanwhile, the peppy remix version by musician Nazmu Reachat set the internet on fire, making ‘Kacha Badam’ one of the biggest social media hits. From Bollywood actors to Malayali stars, everyone seems to be hooked by the ‘Kacha Badam’ trend. Meanwhile, model Urfi Javed courted controversy when she shook a leg to the song wearing a backless top.

Bhuban’s appeal

Even though the song had become a massive hit on social media, it was only later that Bhuban came to know about it. He was upset when he learned that many vloggers were making money, singing the song that he had created. Bhuban even filed a complaint at the nearby police station. However, in a week, a YouTube channel called ‘Ektara’ posted the original version of the song that was sung by Bhuban. It didn’t take long for Bhuban and his big bag of peanuts to become a social media sensation. Bhuban says that his business flourished after the song became a hit. But, he is disappointed that everyone is interested in knowing about the song but not his struggles in life. He says that his financial situation would be improved if the government chips in to offer help to his family.

Perfect OK’ in Kozhikode

Naisal Babu, an auto driver in Panniyankara in Kozhikode too had become an overnight sensation, just like Bhuban, after a mobile video of him singing the ‘Perfect OK’ song became viral. This song was even included in some of the movies that were released after that. The rap version in which Naisal Babu had acted, too had been viral. Meanwhile, Keralites joke that Bhuban has become the latest Naisal Babu of Bengal.

The song:

Badam badam a dada kacha badam

Amar kache naiko bubu vaja badam

Badam badam a dada kacha badam

Amar kache naiko bubu vaja badam.

Badam badam a dada kacha badam

Amar kache naiko bubu vaja badam

Amar kache naiko bubu

Badam ashe valo mathar chira chul.

City goldler churi mala mobailer

Body vanga diye badam mobailer body

Gula 5 taka dam paayer tura

Haater bala thake jodi city.

City golder chain diya jaaben

Taate shoman shoman tomra badam

Paaben badam dada kacha badam

Amar kache naiko bubu vaja badam

Amar kache paaben shudhu kacha badam.

Badam badam a dada kacha badam

Amar kache naiko bubu vaja badam

Badam badam a dada kacha badam

Amar kache naiko bubu vaja badam
