Yesteryear singer, actress, and dubbing artiste Cochin Ammini is no more. She died at a private hospital in Kollam yesterday morning. She was 80.

Her husband John Cruz died earlier. Ammini who was living abroad with her daughter Angel Rani and son-in-law Sujay Mohan returned to Kerala two months ago. At 8 am the public can pay their last respects to her at her Muthiraparambu home. The cremation will be at 11 am at Thuyyam Church Cemetery.

Ammini who debuted on stage at the age of 12 was part of several theatre groups like KPAC, Kalidasa Kalakendra, Kalanilayam, Alleppey Theatres, Kalabhavan, etc. She has acted and sung in over 100 plays. One of the all-time popular songs in Kerala, ‘Kannu Thurakkatha Deivangale’ was crooned by Ammini.

Ammini has also acted in films like 'Kandam Bacha Kottu', 'Thokkukal Kadha Parayunnu', 'Unniyarcha' and 'Adimakal'. She was also one of the earliest dubbing artists in Malayalam cinema who dubbed for Sharada, KR Vijaya, BS Saroja, Vijaya Nirmala, Usha Kumari etc. She gave her voice to Poornima Jayaram in Fazil’s 'Manjil Virinja Pookkal.’

She was given the Sangeetha Nataka Academy award, Thikkurissi Smaraka Puraskaram, O Madhavan Award, Sreekrishna Natya Sangeetha Academy Award, etc.
