Vijay Kurien, noted acoustic expert and music production trainer had dreamed to become a pilot. However, Vijay, a native of Pathanamthitta's Kallooppara, had problems with vision and couldn’t pass the crucial eye test. Now, he works as a trainer at the Whistling Woods International School. Vijay, speaks to Manorama Online about music production and its immense scope in the entertainment industry.
“Now, songs are created using lots of tracks and layering instruments. So, most songs cannot be sung live on stage. Usually, during stage shows, the song and the instruments are played in the background and the singer only perform by lip syncing to it. In the olden days, the entire song would be recorded again even if someone commits a small mistake during the recording. However, now, only the part where the mistake is spotted is re-recorded. So, I feel that today’s songs have lost its soul,” notes Vijay.
Vijay says that there are many who record songs and upload them on Youtube, even if they do not have indepth knowledge about music theory. He thinks that the youngsters do this merely for fame or income from Youtube. Vijay says that rather than showcasing their talent such people actually degrade themselves. “The new generation has creativity. But, they lack patience and hard work. Learning the music pieces and practicing them regularly is important. Musicians like Stephen Devassy would practice up to two thousand times. Hard work is the key behind all the artists who have succeeded,” says Vijay.
