After Narendra Modi, Asha Bhosle, now Amitabh Bachchan to receive ‘Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar’

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan will be conferred with the ‘Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar’ at a function scheduled in Mumbai on April 24. The award has been instituted in the memory of Lata Mangeshkar, who died on February 6, 2022, following multiple organ failure. Bachchan, 81, will receive the recognition on April 24, the memorial day of their father and theatre-music veteran Deenanath Mangeshkar.

The award, known as the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar, is given every year to an individual who has made a path-breaking contribution towards the nation, its people and society. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was its first recipient, followed by Lata Mangeshkar's sister Asha Bhosle in 2023. Meanwhile, Music maestro A R Rahman will receive the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar for contribution to Indian music, said a press release issued by the Mangeshkar family.

Besides Bachchan and Rahman, the other prominent awardees in different categories are: ‘Ghalib’ as Best Marathi Play of the Year, NGO Deepstambh Foundation Manobal of Jalgaon, litterateur Manjiri Phadke, comedian Ashok Saraf, actress Padmini Kolhapure, singer Roopkumar Rathod, journalist S B Torsekar, actor Atul Parchure, producer-actor Randeep Hooda.
The awardees’ list was announced by siblings Hridaynath Mangeshkar and Usha Mangeshkar. Asha Bhosle will give away the awards. Prominent singer Vibhavari Apte-Joshi and her team will pay a musical tribute to Lata Mangeshkar at the event, which is being organised by the Pratisthan and Hridayesh Arts.
