Popular singer Chinmayi Sripada recently performed at the audio launch of the upcoming Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam film 'Thug Life', which is slated for release on June 5. While the night was marked by some powerful performances, Chinmayi's rendering of the Telugu version of Muththa Mazhai stood out. The performance was lauded by netizens who sought her comeback to Tamil films. Chinmayi who is a vocal critic of some big names in Tamil cinema has been facing an unofficial ban in the industry after she named powerful lyricist Vairamuthu during the Me Too movement some years ago.

Singer Dhee has sung the original Tamil version in the movie. While Dhee's performance has been lauded, many soon took to X comparing Chinmayi's version with Dhee. Even singer Vishnu Ram opined that Chinmayi ate the original version for breakfast with her performance at the audio launch. He even shared his disappointment stating that Tamil cinema is losing out on powerful talents because of the illegal ban and questioned why big names like Mani Ratnam, A R Rahman and Kamal Haasan are not making more efforts to include Chinmayi in Tamil cinema.

"At least now, those in the film industry who have power should stand in her support and lift the ban!," wrote one user on X. "Feeling bad for Chinmayi, proven singer, overlooked due to politics.... I hope ARR uses her version in the movie(no disrespect to Dhee) ....," wrote another user.
