Steven Spielberg has added another milestone to his storied career, officially joining the exclusive EGOT club.
The 79-year-old filmmaker won his first Grammy Award as a producer of the documentary ‘Music by John Williams’, which was named best music film. The announcement was made during the non-televised premiere ceremony held ahead of the main Grammy Awards.
‘Music by John Williams’ pays tribute to Spielberg’s long and celebrated creative partnership with the legendary composer. The documentary brings together voices ranging from George Lucas to Yo-Yo Ma, while revisiting the unforgettable scores behind landmark films such as ‘Jaws’, ‘E.T.’ and the ‘Star Wars’ franchise.
In a statement, Spielberg thanked Grammy voters for recognising the film and spoke of the immeasurable influence John Williams has had on music and culture over the past five decades.
EGOT refers to winning an Emmy, Grammy, Academy Award and Tony — the four highest honours in the entertainment industry. Fewer than two dozen individuals have achieved the distinction.
