From the dunes of Algeria to the streets of New Orleans, guitarist Djamel Laroussi’s music travels across the sounds of different cultures. With more genres added to the mix, Laroussi is now bringing his sonic tapestry to Technopark for a concert featuring Kerala folk band Earthlore and Takadimi, a musical ensemble from Auckland, New Zealand. He will flag off his first-ever Indian tour with a show at The Amphitheatre, Technopark on February 5 at 7.30 pm.

Laroussi is one of Algeria’s most celebrated musicians, blending genres such as folk, jazz and rock while his vocals traverse between French and Algerian-Arabic. By mixing esoteric technique with soulful style, his music has the unique ability to touch the hearts of layman listeners, professional musicians and anyone in between. Complex polyrhythms are built upon a North-African groove, which serves as the bedrock for his discography.

The left-handed guitarist, renowned for playing the right-handed guitar upside down, will be joined by Auckland-based Takadimi–an ensemble of musicians from different nationalities, each bringing their own sound to the mix. The brainchild of Tabla artist Manjit Singh, Takadimi specialises in world music, frequently performing with diverse musicians including Nathan Haines, Ustad Taufiq Qureshi and Purbayan Chatterjee. Their latest collaboration with Laroussi is a part of their 2026 tour, which starts in India and spans Australia, New Zealand and the UK. In their two-and-a-half-hour performance, the musicians will explore a variety of genres, including jazz, Indian pop, classical, folk and bossa nova, but never restricting themselves to one style alone.

Kerala folk band Earthlore will also be joining Laroussi, bringing the sounds of South India to the global ensemble. Trained under the 2025 ARPO Earthlore Fellowship Programme, the band is a collective of indigenous musicians from Kerala and Karnataka who are reviving tribal music traditions.
