‘Aaradhakan’ is a reply to toxic fans: Indulekha on Masthishka Maranam’s hard-hitting song

The upcoming movie 'Masthishka Maranam' is set to hit theatres this month, and the makers have recently released a song titled 'Aaradhakan.' The track, composed by Varkey and sung by Indulekha Warrier, best known for her rap in ‘Pen Rap,’ plays a crucial role in the film's storyline. Set in the year 2048, the film revolves around the life of an actress, and the song's theme directly ties into the narrative.

‘Aaradhakan’ co-lyricist Indulekha, who also raps for the song, said the song serves as a powerful response to the toxic behavior of fans who believe they have the right to set boundaries for their idols. "Krishand, the director, has always wanted to collaborate with me ever since he saw my performance at the Para Hip Hop Festival in 2021. This opportunity came through Varkey, the music composer for the track. Varkey and I were working on our third collaboration when this project arose. Varkey had previously worked with Krishand as the music composer for the 'Nalarasangham' series. When Krishand was looking for a song for his new film, both Varkey and I shared the core of the song we were working on, and he really liked it," she said.

This is Indulekha's first time singing a rap song for a film, even though she has built a name for herself as a rapper and hip hop artist in the independent music scene. The music video for ‘Aaradhakan’ also features Divya Prabha and Ann Saleem, along with Rajisha Vijayan, Rahul Rajagopal and Varkey. "Divya and Ann were extremely excited about the song. They were both humming and rapping along with the track during the entire shoot. In fact, Divya felt it was a perfect response to toxic social media fans and culture. It was amazing to see how they connected with the message," Indulekha said. The rapper added that the song is not just for actresses but for all women who face online harassment and negativity. "The song speaks to everyone who has ever been subjected to the harshness of social media. It was a fun experience, and I'm grateful to Krishand for giving me the opportunity to be part of the project, especially the music video," she added. Rajisha Vijayan plays a prominent role in ‘Masthishka Maranam’, (A Frankenbiting of Simon's Memories) along with Jagadish.
