Bollywood diva Anushka Sharma has tried her hands at making sweet and tangy tomato jam, after watching hundreds of food vlogs during the lockdown period in 2020.

Anushka and her husband, cricketer Virat Kohli, strictly follows a vegan diet and have given up many of their favourite food items. They do not consume milk and milk products, meat or even honey. Besides, they have said ‘no’ to leather goods too. The star couple are committed vegans and avoid all kinds of animal products.

In a video posted on her Instagram page, Anushka could be seen plucking fresh and plump tomatoes from her backyard garden. Anushka then cooks the perfect tomato jam that stands out for its vibrant red colour. The actress’ parents too could be seen in the video, enjoying the delicious jam.

Here is how to make fresh tomato jam at home.


Plump tomatoes

Lemon juice

A pinch of salt

Cinnamon powder


Blanch the tomatoes and peel their skin off

Now chop the tomatoes

Cook the mushy tomato pieces in a thick bottomed vessel

Add sugar, salt and cinnamon powder when the water reduces

Add lemon juice before taking it off the flame

Tangy and sweet tomato jam tastes delicious with toasted and crunchy bread
