The festive season is usually when wallets feel the pinch. But this year, supermarket shelves tell a different story. From butter and ghee to biscuits, chocolates and coffee, prices are sliding down as GST 2.0 comes into effect from September 22.

The four-slab tax system has been trimmed to just two: 5% and 18%. The shift is already showing up on MRP tags, with brands like Amul, Nestlé, Dabur, ITC, HUL and Ferrero cutting prices across hundreds of products. For shoppers, this means everyday favourites are suddenly within easier reach.

Amul butter now costs ₹58 instead of ₹62. A litre of Amul ghee has dropped by ₹40. Sunfeast Marie Light biscuits are down to ₹150 from ₹170. Even indulgences like Ferrero Rocher have shed ₹100 a box, while Nescafé Gold has been trimmed by almost the same amount.

Here’s a breakdown of the products where you’ll notice the difference.

How the savings add up
Households will feel the savings in their monthly bills almost immediately. A typical grocery basket with butter, ghee, biscuits, coffee, shampoo, toothpaste and snacks will now cost less, just in time for Navratri and Diwali shopping. For companies, the move is expected to revive demand and drive sales after months of sluggish consumption.

This festive season, your grocery bag may be fuller; and your wallet a little heavier.
