This authentic curried lentils recipe from Kerala is one of the first things to greet you in a sadya. Mild and seasoned, it gives a great to start to the feast.

Ingredients
1 cup toor dal
4-5 shallots
½ tsp jeera
1 dsp ghee
2-3 green chillies, slit
A few sprigs of curry leaves
1 cup scraped coconut
2 dried red chillies
Salt, as required

Preparation
In a pan, put in the toor dal and dry roast
Once the lightly roasted smell emanates from it, take it off the flame
Wash the dal, and pass over to a pressure cooker, letting it cook
Meanwhile, in a mixer, put in the scraped coconut, jeera, shallots, green chillies and grind to a smooth paste
Pour the mixture into the curry and mix well
Add enough salt
Now, for seasoning, add ghee to a pan
When it heats up add curry leaves and red chillies
Pour the curry into the pan
Delicious Parippu Curry is ready to serve
