Prawns pappas

Among epicures, Kerala has the reputation of being a heaven of seafood. Be it prawns, shrimps, mussels or mollusks, Kerala knows just the right way to make them appetizing. Try out this traditional prawns recipe from middle-Kerala in which spongy prawns are cooked in creamy coconut milk.

Ingredients
1/2 kg prawns
1 cup sliced onion
1 tomato, sliced
2 green chilies, slit
3 pieces of cocum, soaked
1 cup thick coconut milk
1 cup thin coconut milk
2 tsp sliced ginger
2 tsp garlic
1/ 2 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp fenugreek
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp coriander powder
2 sprig curry leaves
Salt as required

Preparation
Heat oil in a pan
Splutter mustard seeds in it
Add fenugreek and sliced onions to the pan, saute well
Add sliced ginger, garlic and green chilies
Add turmeric powder, chili powder, and coriander powder, mix well
Add salt and curry leaves
Now add the cleaned prawns to the pan, mix well
Add soaked cocum
Add thin coconut milk
Allow it to boil
Wait till the prawns get tender
Now add sliced tomato to the curry
Finally, add thick coconut milk
The prawn pappas is ready to be relished
