A piquant chutney with lots of coconut and roasted gram to make a healthy, tasty chutney fit for any kind of dosa, idli or even upma.
Ingredients
2 cups coconut
¼ cup roasted gram
1½ tbsp green chillies, chopped
1 tsp ginger, minced
2 tbsp sliced shallots
Salt, as required
A small ball of Malabar tamarind
For seasoning
Oil, as required
¼ tsp mustard seeds
¼ tsp black gram
¼ tsp Bengal gram
3 dried red chillies
1 sprig curry leaves
Preparation
To a mixer, add the coconut, roasted gram, green chillies, ginger, shallots, salt and Malabar tamarind. Grind to a paste
In a pan, pour oil
When the oil heats up drop the mustard seeds in it
Once they splutter, put in the black gram and Bengal gram
Add 3 dried red chillies and 1 sprig curry leaves
Add the ground paste to this seasoning
Give it a good mix and take off the flame
Delicious coconut and lentil chutney is ready to be served
