Semolina upma, broken wheat upma, oats upma, ragi upma... the humble and healthy South Indian dish is made with a variety of grains. And it's enjoyed the best when dished out with ripe bananas and papad, or curries of your choice.

However, often its preparation takes some time. If you are one among those for whom time is a luxury, don’t worry. You can make it in just seven minutes.

You only need to prepare and keep ready the instant mix on weekends or other holidays. Here’s the easy recipe for the same:

Ingredients
2 cup rava
2 tablespoons ghee
1 teaspoon mustard
1 teaspoon ural dal
½ teaspoon split chickpeas
¼ cup cashew nuts
1 sprigs of curry leaves
3 or 4 dry red chillies
1 ½ teaspoon salt

Preparation
Put the rava in a non-stick pan and roast the same on a medium flame for eight minutes
Remove this from the pan and place the same in a vessel to cool off
Now pour ghee and put mustard, wait till it splutters
Add ural dal, split chickpeas, cashew nuts, curry leaves, and dry red chillies and roast for two to three minutes
Add rava and salt to this mix
Turn off the flames after stirring and mixing it well for three minutes
You can add dried vegetables to the mix
Keep the mix in a plain vessel to cool off
Once it cools down, keep the mix in an air-tight vessel
Instant upma mix is ready and will last for one-and-a-half months.
How to prepare instant rava upma
