Vazhapindi pachadi: An easy curry that hardly needs any cooking

Almost every part of a banana plant provides nutritious food items that can be cooked to make curries. These parts include not only the raw bananas but also the flower and stem. In fact, the tender stem (vazhapindi) of banana plant is a remedy for several diseases. Moreover, the juice of the stem is believed to remove the toxic elements in our bodies.

It also prevents the formation of kidney stones. Various dishes could be made from banana stems and a unique variety of ‘pachadi,’ which needs no boiling, is notable among them. Here is its recipe.

Ingredients
1 piece of banana stem
2 numbers of green chillies
1 cup of grated coconut
1 cup curd
¼ teaspoon mustard
Salt to taste

Preparation
Slice the banana stem into very small pieces
Mix salt and curry leaves with the sliced stem
Grind the coconut, mustard and curd
Add it to the banana stem
Stir properly
The ‘vazhapindi pachadi’ is ready
