Kozhikode: Ahead of the World Cancer Day on February 4, doctors at the Government Medical College in Kozhikode have successfully removed a massive 23 kg ovarian tumour from a 25-year-old woman, health officials said on Monday. The complex surgery was performed at the hospital’s Mother and Child Care Centre after the woman reported an unusual but painless swelling of the abdomen.
Medical investigations had revealed an abnormally large ovarian tumour measuring about 45 cm in length and width. A multidisciplinary team of doctors carried out the two-hour procedure under the supervision of senior specialists. Despite the size and weight of the tumour, the surgery was completed without complications, doctors said. The patient is stable and recovering well.
Health Minister Veena George commended the medical team for their skill and dedication.
