A lot of us tend to brush off a bleeding gum as something random, thinking we might have accidentally scarred it while brushing or eating. However, experts say it's not wise to leave such symptoms uninspected. While it is the number one symptom of the gum disease called gingivitis, caused by plaque and bacterial buildup, bleeding gums can also point to various other health issues. Here are a few other diseases it might be hinting at:

What can bleeding gums mean?
1) A common symptom of anaemia, blood cancer and excessive bleeding in the body. If you have these conditions, your gums can start bleeding even when you touch them lightly, while brushing, or even when they are in a relaxed position.
2) Vitamin C deficiency could cause scurvy, and one of its main symptoms is bleeding gums.
3) It can be a symptom of vitamin K deficiency, kidney diseases and dengue fever.
4)Diabetes patients may also suffer from swollen or bleeding gums.
