The Sapien Lab Report, which states that people over 55 can do things better and more successfully than those between 18 and 34, has been released. The report was published by the well-known US-based non-profit organisation named Sapien Labs. It highlights the importance of mental health in certain age groups, and says it's not a factor that can be brushed aside as irrelevant. A team of experts from 84 countries conducted the study. In India, data for the study were collected using scientific methods from 1,06,437 individuals from various states and union territories to determine the mental health index. The index was prepared by including 47 items related to the functioning of the human mind. The youngsters in India scored 33 on the mental health index, while the elderly scored an impressive 96.

Strong mind
The study apparently revealed that the elderly have the ability and strength to face life's challenges, and it inspires confidence in them. Strong family bonds, better social relations, a healthy lifestyle, and relatively less mobile phone use are reportedly the reasons the elderly enjoy better mental health. The study also foregrounds the cracks in social relations, especially among youngsters, caused by excessive dependence or addiction to mobile phones. Meanwhile, the elderly are not that dependent on smartphones. Besides, the eating habits based on ultra-processed foods by the youngsters have negatively impacted their mental health.

Family and mental health
The study notes that the elderly maintain healthier relationships with their families than younger people do. These social factors, which act as strong support systems for individuals during a crisis, play a pivotal role in promoting better mental health. Moreover, a healthy, balanced diet for the elderly contributes to their mental health and well-being. Find the full report here
