Kerala on week-long holiday shutdown

Thiruvananthapuram: Public offices in Kerala are into a week-long virtual shutdown with the Onam holidays getting clubbed with a couple of other holidays and two Sundays. Educational institutions closed for the usual Onam holidays on Friday, September 6, and classes are set to re-start only on September 16, Monday.

The state government has asked a few employees in all key departments to show up for important tasks. Treasuries will be open today, Sunday, to dispense Onam advance, bills and bonus.

Central government offices in Kerala are shut on September 9 (for Muharram) and 11, Wednesday, (for Thiruvonam) in addition to 14 (a regular holiday on the second Saturday) as well as the two Sundays (8 and 15), preceding and culminating the week.

Banks closed

Banks in the state will be closed for 6 days this coming week, except on September 9, Monday, and 12, Thursday.

As banks will remain shut, ATMs could run out of cash as has often happened during consecutive public holidays.

All liquor outlets will be closed on September 11, the Thiruvonam day, and 13, Friday, a holiday marking Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthy.
