Kollam woman rides modified bike without helmet, slapped fine of Rs 20k

Ayoor: The motor vehicles department has slapped a fine of Rs 20,500 on a young woman over various violations, including riding without a helmet. A recommendation has been made to suspend her licence as well.

The video of the woman, riding a modified bike without the helmet, has been circulating on social media for the past several days.

The enforcement wing of the motor vehicles department went to the woman's house at Punthalathazham in the district and initiated action against her.

An inspection revealed that the woman only has a licence to ride gearless scooters. She was slapped with a fine of Rs 10,000 for riding a bike with gears, another Rs 10,000 for modifying the bike, and Rs 500 for riding without a helmet.

Enforcement RTO T Mahesh directed to take action against her after the motor vehicles department received a complaint along with the video. MVI Sumod Sahadevan, AMVIs S Binoj and S U Anish carried out the checks.
