Heavy rain likely: Yellow alert for 7 districts in Kerala on Friday

Thiruvananthapuram: A yellow alert has been issued for seven districts in Kerala on Friday after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast that heavy rainfall is likely in central and southern parts of the state. The alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts.
Also, a yellow alert has been issued on Saturday for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki as isolated heavy rainfall is likely in these districts.
Meanwhile, the IMD has withdrawn the warning that the cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal could intensify into a depression.
Excess rainfall
The state received 48 per cent excess rainfall from April 1 till Thursday. Most of the districts received above-normal rainfall. So far, Pathanamthitta has received 20cm of rainfall, 99 per cent higher than normal.
Pathanamthitta also received the highest rainfall on Thursday. The highest rainfall of 90mm (9cm) was recorded at Kurudamannil near Ayiroor of Pathanamthitta. Ernakulam south recorded 8cm rainfall, while Kottayam and Munnar received 6cm of rainfall each. Most of the areas in the state, apart from Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram districts, received rainfall.
Also, the daytime temperature in most of the regions, including Kottayam, has dropped. The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Palakkad, 37 degrees Celsius. However, experts have advised against stepping out in the sun during the afternoon.
