Idukki: When rain and wind batter Idukki, a family in Kanjikuzhy Panchayat endures sleepless nights under nothing more than a plastic sheet propped up by wooden poles.

This is the daily struggle of 87-year-old Brijitha of Tharappel, her son, who is a heart patient, and his wife. With no proper shelter to shield them, the family lives in constant fear and discomfort, especially during the relentless monsoon season.

Despite years of submitting petitions to various government offices, from the District Collectorate to the village office, the family's plea for a safe home remains unheard. The son's heart condition keeps him from working, leaving the family dependent on the meagre income his wife earns through the employment guarantee scheme. Their only hope now lies in the intervention of authorities and elected representatives to secure the basic dignity of a safe and stable home.
