Idukki: The third accused in the Kambamettu hashish oil case, who had been evading arrest since March, was arrested in Kochi by a police team led by Kattappana DySP VA Nishad Mon on Wednesday. The accused, Shinaj(49), a native of Manady, Athirampuzha in Kottayam, had been on the run for months, frequently changing mobile numbers and working as a driver in inter-state tourist buses to stay under the radar.

He allegedly supplied hashish oil to Ashmon (49) from Ernakulam, the second accused in the case, who was arrested two weeks ago and confessed that the contraband was sourced from Shinaj. The case was first registered following the arrest of Ashkar (49) from Alappuzha, who was caught with 105 grams of hashish oil near Karunapuram.

Shinaj is a repeat offender, previously arrested by Chavakkad police in 2022 with 150 grams of MDMA and 1.25 kg of cannabis. He had been out on bail and is believed to have resumed drug trafficking.

After prolonged surveillance and undercover operations, police apprehended Shinaj in Kochi. He was presented before the Nedumkandam court and has been remanded to judicial custody.
