Wayanad: All educational institutions, including professional colleges, will remain closed in Kannur, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts on Saturday, as the India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in these districts. The district collectors have made an official announcement regarding the closure on Friday evening.
In Wayanad, residential schools will operate according to their scheduled time. The three district collectors announced that all tuition centres, anganwadis, and religious study centres are restricted from opening for classes on Saturday. Meanwhile, pre-scheduled examinations for universities and other departments will be conducted.
Kozhikode district collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in Vadakara taluk in view of the bad weather conditions.
Kerala is likely to experience heavy rainfall until July 22. Wayanad is on high alert due to the risk of landslides and mudslides. Last year, two massive landslides caused widespread devastation in the Chooralmala and Mundakai regions of the hill district.
IMD has also sounded a red alert for Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts on Saturday.
