Beypore: Maintenance and repair works at the Beypore Fishing Harbour, carried out at a cost of ₹25 lakh, have been completed ahead of the trawling ban's end on July 31. The renovation aimed to restore the harbour’s full-scale operations after lying idle during the seasonal fishing ban.

As part of the restoration effort, extensive concreting was done on the wharf, parking areas and loading zones. A new wharf measuring 95 metres in length and 5.7 metres in width has been concreted. The auctioning hall has been renovated, and broken slabs on the drainage system have been replaced with new ones.

Damaged water pipes have also been replaced, and the granite stone wall near the entrance has been reconstructed to provide proper seating for workers and the public. All works were undertaken by the Harbour Engineering Department.

The harbour's worn-out concrete floor had been a major concern for fish workers. With large holes on the wharf surface, they were unable to load fish into trolleys or move them efficiently to the auction hall. Mounting complaints from workers prompted authorities to intervene and initiate urgent repair works.

Meanwhile, a proposal by the Harbour Management Committee to extend the Japan Drinking Water Project to the harbour premises remains stalled. Although the water project has been implemented up to the harbour gate, the final connections within the harbour are still pending, delaying access to clean drinking water on-site.
