Puthenvittil Chandapillai (Babu) Mathew passed away on Saturday. He was 75. The funeral service will be held at 4.00 pm on Saturday, August 2, at the Kilpauk Cemetery in Chennai. He hailed from Mavelikkara in Kerala’s Alappuzha district.

He was the son of the late P C Mathai IAS, former Union Labour Secretary and Labour Adviser to the United Nations in Geneva. A distinguished and accomplished professional, Babu’s executive career took him from Chennai to London, the United States, and back to Bengaluru. Over the decades, he held leadership roles at Balmer Lawrie, Unilever, and TVS Motors.

He is survived by his wife, Annamma Mathai, daughter of the late P C Abraham of Padinjarekkara, Kottayam, who was a former secretary and trustee of the Orthodox Church.
Children: Nikhil Mathew, Abraham Mathew, and Matthen Mathew (all based in the US).
Daughters-in-law: Sarah, Radhika, and Laju.
Grandchildren: Alisha, Basu, Zoe, Markus, Leo, Luke, and Miles.
