Ernakulam: Edathala Police have issued a lookout notice against Mirajul Haq, an Assam native accused in a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case after spending five months in his pursuit. The case dates back to March, when Haq allegedly sexually abused a minor girl hailing from Assam. The survivor's family came to Edathala in search of work. Haq was their neighbour.

The police formed an investigation team and launched an extensive search across Ernakulam and neighbouring districts. Their efforts were unsuccessful. A team was also sent to Assam to trace the accused in his hometown of Nagaon.

"The team could not trace the accused. There was nothing more we could do on the ground. We've now decided to issue a lookout notice as a last resort," said an officer from the Edathala Police.

Mirajul Haq has been slapped with relevant sections under the POCSO Act.
