Ittiyappara: How long does it take to replace an unfit building with a usable one? If intervention from the MP and MLAs can be ensured, a new community hall could be constructed in place of an abandoned school building. The old structure and land of Aithala Government LP School currently lie unused.
Established in 1896, the school was once a leading educational institution in the Pazhavangadi panchayat. However, as several new schools emerged in the region, enrolment at Aithala steadily declined. Eventually, the school was closed after the last batch of students completed Class 4.
During the tenure of the previous panchayat council, the school’s roof was repaired. But today, the building lies in a dilapidated state. There is a growing demand to dismantle the old structure and construct a new facility that would serve the needs of the village.
The area lacks government-owned buildings for hosting gram sabha meetings or other small-scale public events. A community hall could be built if funds from the MP or MLA local area development scheme are allocated.
