Vadakara: Although Ooralunkal Society had tried to be the saviour of Gosayikunnu, the aim of turning it into an attractive tourist spot remains a distant dream. One of the major challenges is the lack of proper road facilities to this area.
Access to Gosayikunnu, which is situated 100 feet above sea level, has been completely restricted after it became a hub of anti-social elements. People who arrive from faraway places to enjoy the serene beauty of the hills often return dejected as they cannot enter the area.
It is an incredible experience to enjoy the mesmerizing views of the ocean and feel the soothing breeze from atop the hill. Lots of people used to scale the hill that lies in multiple layers to enjoy the views or just to relax in the company of nature. The way to the hill was closed using iron fencing after it became a hub of criminals.
Meanwhile, the authorities have been urged to build a bridge across the Kallanta stream, connecting Onchiyam and Chorod panchayats. The bridge, which could be included in the coastal road project, will be helpful for the fisherfolk too as they have to swim to the Chombal harbour during the high tide.
The Kallantavida – Gosayikunnu Road with a budget of ₹1.5 crore has been included in the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and is awaiting approval.
People could easily reach the valley via Kelu Bazar and Kainatti. But, visitors seldom take these paths as they are too narrow and dangerous.
