Kodencherry (Kozhikode): Only six out of 63 students of St Joseph’s LP School in Karimbalakunnu attended classes on Tuesday. The daily attendance of students has been dropping severely since last week. The reason is neither rain havoc nor threat from wild animals.

It’s because the police vehicles have been speeding through the streets of Karimbalakunnu throughout the day. The police personnel are looking for the accused in the cases related to the dispute and unrest that took place at the protest against the Fresh Cut chicken waste disposal plant on October 21.

Most students studying at the St. Joseph’s LP School hail from Karimbalakunnu. The five students who attended the classes the other day either come from outside Karimbalakunnu or are the kids of the teachers. The children are usually dropped and picked up from the school by the adults in the family. However, the attendance fell to just five or six students when the adults went into hiding fearing police action.

Meanwhile, children are scared to get out of their homes as police vehicles have been roaming around the streets in Karimbalakunnu and even stopping by their houses to conduct raids. Meanwhile, headmistress Daisly Mathew said that they have informed the education department about the plight of the school and that the teachers are willing to conduct online classes if the authorities grant them permission.

The police have registered cases against more than 100 persons for attacking police personnel and setting fire to the factory and the vehicles that were parked nearby.
